Tell about yourself - your personality, lifestyle, etc.
My career in the arts and teaching "swallowed" most of my life for many years, but now I am branching out and wanting to have someone to share my life with, without giving up my independence entirely. I love my work but I also love being a homebody, reading books for hours on end, and cruising shopping malls (when I'm bored). Loud noises or loud music and crowds bother me, and I'm not a big party person; I enjoy socializing in small groups with people I know. I rarely watch TV (don't even have cable) and talk on the phone with a few friends only occasionally. I love dark chocolate, dining out, and animals, my dogs being foremost among those. I need to live near grass, trees, and quiet neighbors--don't especially like to travel far from home (I've lived and worked overseas, etc.--been there, done that). My friends think I'm funny, and I have infinite curiosity about learning new things. I'm a "night person" and love to sleep late if I can.
What kind of person are you interested in meeting?
I'm interested in meeting a responsible, warm, enthusiastic, loyal man who has true respect for women and is, above all, totally HONEST in everything. He'll be patient, attentive but not overly-solicitous or demonstrative (especially in public), quiet, communicative, and, of course, a dog-lover. He must care about something passionately--his work, his hobby, me, or whatever--just something. If he's obsessive about sex or personal appearances or religion, he's probably not my type. He will be well-groomed, and in control, but not "controlling." And since I've spent most of my life as a "starving artist/teacher," a little financial security in my life would be OK too, for a change!
What sort of relationship would you like at this point in your life.
I'm not sure. I'm just exploring possibilities. However I'd like to meet someone interested in, and not afraid of, long-term and/or marriage options. I've been divorced since age 24--many years--hopefully now there is a Mr. Right still out there, somewhere...
Do you have kids / grandkids? Tell about them.
No kids. I teach a whole slew of them. That's always been enough.
What have you accomplished so far in your life that you are most proud of?
My professional achievements, and my education.
Where have you lived and traveled so far? Where would you like to go?
Lived and traveled in Europe--Germany and France, mostly. Someday I'd like to see Italy and Spain, and within the U.S., some of the great old southern cities. Went to college in Texas, later in Charlotte NC. Spent summers in Cape Cod for a while. Willing to live anywhere unless it snows all year long...
Tell something interesting about your family, past or present.
My parents were middle-class, worked for the Fed. gov't. in D.C. for years. My father's side were Italian immigrants. My mother's side--an odd assortment of Scotch/French, etc. My father was from the east coast, my mother's from the midwest. No living relatives at present. Had one younger sister, now deceased.
Name some of your all-time favorite music / movies / TV / books.
Favorite TV shows: Law and Order, Cold Case, The Mentalist, Castle, Monk.
Books: Mysteries--thrillers. Dean Koontz ("Watchers"), Barbara ? ("The Poisonwood Bible"). anything by P.D. James.
Movies: Maybe "E.T."
Music: Classical, some New Age. Not into rap or pop. I like good jazz.
What type of work do you do? Do you enjoy it?
I work in the arts--was a performer for many years in professional theater, now I teach. I love teaching, though today's kids are pretty spoiled...not to mention their parents! I like interacting with them and seeing them "turn on" to something they've just learned, and like passing on the joy my career gave to me to someone who might end up pursuing it too.
What do you enjoy doing for fun?
Fun--reading a good book, walking the dogs or just sitting out in the yard with them, or playing with them. Going out for ice cream. Eating out in a fancy restaurant with good friends. Shopping for clothes when I have a few dollars to spare. Sometimes I like to cook, but I'm no "gourmet." I like art galleries, though I rarely have time to go. I attend live theatrical performances as part of my job.
What do you hate doing?
Hate being in big crowds of strangers--would never go to a live music concert for that reason. Too many people, too loud.
Hate being around heavy drinkers--I find them embarrassing and scary.
Tell about where you grew up or where you are from.
I'm from the East Coast, big urban city. Grew up in a suburb, very middle-class background. I have lived in the mid-west, in the south, and in Europe.
Do you have pets? Tell about them.
I have four dogs. They are small, hairy, and just pets--no show dogs or obedience winners among them. All are under 25 lbs. Two Yorkies (Bonnie & Clyde), one Maltese, and one EDD (Ethnically Diverse Dog, from pet rescue). Probably a Schnuahuahua--half Schnauzer, half Chihuahua. Much loved, spoiled, sweet guys.
What would you say is your best virtue?
I'm honest.
What was the most daring / wild thing you have ever done?
I flew to Europe to audition for a job--sold my car, left my life as I "knew it" and took a chance. I'm still a risk-taker. This profile, for example....
What terrifies you?
Irrational people terrify me--drunks, druggies, very angry people, mentally unstable, obsessive types.
If you were on a deserted island, and you could choose 3 items to take, what would they be?
My dogs.
Your ultimate intimate dinner party would include which 3 guests (dead or alive)?
Agatha Christie, my (deceased) younger sister, H. G. Wells.
How is your physical shape? What do you do to keep in shape?
Good shape. My work is teaching a physical art form (dance). However I'm not into hiking or sports. When not exercising as my job, I prefer couch-potatoing.
While looking at a person’s profile, following the picture, what are the first things you look for?
A sense of humor.
What else should we know about you?
I think I've just about covered all the bases....
